2012 Mayan Calendar Explained

Aussie On Tour visited the Mayan Ruins in Guatemala and Mexico in the middle of 2011. What you see here is an unbiased and clear explanation as to why the Mayan Calendar ended in 2012 and what everyone expected to happen. Obviously we’re still here, so the end of the Mayan Calendar did not spell the end of life on Earth as we know it. It did not even see a reset switch on Earth, as was predicted. But it did see the Mayan Calendar be reset to Year Zero. Who knows what exactly this means? We hope you enjoy the...

Zip lining Costa Rica

Ever wondered what it’s like to go zip lining across a mountain gorge in Costa Rica?  How about “Superman” across the sky from one mountain top to another?  Pretend you’re “Tarzan” maybe? Lorna and I put our fear of heights to the test in Monte Verda, Costa Rica, with an awesome bunch of people on an Intrepid Tour. If you watch this video, you will be booking your next flight to Costa Rica as soon as you can find your credit card… Is Zip Lining in Costa Rica now on your bucket...

Paris

Lorna and I hopped off the train at Gare du Nord Station in Paris only to realise we had to catch another couple of trains if we were ever going to be out of the below-freezing conditions and safely in our relatively cheap hotelroom in Montmartre. For those of you who’ve never been to Montmartre, it’s the cool, artsy-type part of Paris with lots of cool restaurants, bars and clubs. Live touring bands generally play here and it’s also where the strip-clubs are. If you’re looking for night-time party action, this is where you want to book your room. Montmartre’s a little-bit edgy but a whole-lot cool. The plan was to spend our nights in Montmartre, and visit the Louvre, Sacra Coure, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Catacombes, Dali Museum and the Arc de Triomphe over three days. Although we arrived with all our bags at one of the main subway-stops in Montmartre, we followed the directions our hotel gave us and basically walked to the outer-limits of the suburb. The hotel’s website clearly stated it was in Montmartre, but I’m telling you, it was a trick because it was miles away from the action. The hotel was called ETAP Porte de Montmartre and you can click on it if you’d like to read my review on the place. Personally, I wouldn’t waste my time though. The next day we found...

Bruges

It’s impossible to see a white christmas in Australia. But we still get a glimpse into what it’s like because of American and English movies. Where people hug each other wrapped in big-jackets and scarves while snow floats down from the night sky and gently kisses them as they laugh and look as though they’re having the best time. This year, instead of waking up to go for a swim at the beach before having the family around for a backyard BBQ in 35-degree-heat, Lorna and I were on the other side of the world, in Europe and the...

Amsterdam

There’s only two reasons you’re an Australian and going to Amsterdam. A) You’ve been offered a job. B) You want to party and you’re curious. Lorna and I were not offered a job. Lorna had been before but didn’t want to tell me too much about it. I’d heard all the rumours about there being this famous red-light district and pubs on every corner, but had never seen any photos. I’d heard it was a pretty no-holds-barred city where sex and raunchiness were part of everyday life. I had no idea. After spending six weeks in the middle-east and...
