Recommended for: Backpackers who want to spend their money on other things. That being said, if you’re a couple, I’d probably stay somewhere else.
Value for money: 3/5
For $60 AU per night for two people and a shared bathroom and w-ifi, this place is a little over-priced. But it’s Athens. I’d like to see you find somewhere cheaper for this price. It’s also pretty run-down. There’s wooden floorboards throughout and we had ants in our bedroom. That said, somehow, we still enjoyed our stay. I think because it’s in the awesome suburb of Plaka. You’re only ten minutes walk from the city mall and about thirty minutes walk to the main ruins.
Cleanliness: 1.5/5
The wooden floorboards need to be stripped back and redone. Water and soap ain’t gonna do it. The share-bathrooms are a little dirty and also need a good reno. That being said, it’s a backpacker-style place and it’s cheap. The downstairs bar is a good meeting area and have $2 AU long-necks.
Facilities: 2/5
Wifi and a bar area. Oh, and breakfast for 5 euro, but it’s pretty ordinary. The best thing about this place is the staff help you get around Athens and there’s a tour you should take for 13 euro. A guy called Claudia came at 10 a.m. and took us on a private tour of the Temple of Olympius Zeus, the Roman Agora and the main Acropolis Sites including, Sanctuary of the Nymphs, Odeion of Herodes Attikos, the Acropolis High City, Beule Gate and the monument of Agrippa, Popylaia, Panathenaic Way, the Temple of Athena Nike, Parthenon, Erechtheion and Ancient Agora. On top of his fee, you also have to pay 13 euro for tickets to entry to all these sites.
Location: 4/5
I can’t see a better location for you to stay in Athens than Plaka. If you want something a little better than a backpackers/hostel, maybe get a private hotel room in a hotel, but stay in Plaka.
Staff: 5/5
Extremely friendly and helpful. They’ll give you a map and tell you where to go and where to eat. There’s an in-house travel agency that will sell you tickets to the Greek Islands (like Santorini, Crete, etc) and help you plan.
